Video HELP

Problems playing these videos?

The most common problem with playing these videos is that the proper codec is not installed on your PC. You will normally see some type of error message relating to "decompressor" in your media player. Codec stands for "compressor/decompressor". The codecs are files that need to be installed on your PC to play the videos. Laitla Tool Videos are created using Intel Corporation codecs for compression. We use either Intel's Indeo 4.xx or 5.xx series of codecs depending on how big the movie files would be.

You can download a program which will install the standard set of Indeo codecs on your machine from the Laitla Tool website. This program will install the Intel Indeo 3.2, 4.5 and 5.11 video codecs in addition to the 2.5 version of audio codec. Your computer can have many codecs installed at the same time. For example, our computer has 17 different video codecs installed.

DOWNLOAD the file named "indeocodecinstall.zip". Create a directory on your pc named "codecs" and download to that directory. Then, unzip this file in that directory and then click on the file called setup.exe. This setup program will guide you through the installation of the codecs onto your pc. You should then be able to play the videos. Need to know what codecs are already installed on your PC? Click "Start" then "settings" then "control panel". When the control panel comes up, click on "multimedia". Then click the tab named "devices". Then click on the plus sign adjacent to "video compression codecs". That will list the codecs currently installed on your machine.

Downloading the videos

When you play these videos in your browser, the movie files are automatically downloaded to your computer. However, they are stored in your "cache" your browser uses. You can find them by using Windows Explorer tools and search for all .avi or .mpg type files. This utility will find them for you and you can then copy them to a directory that is more convenient for you. You don't have to download them as a manual operation. Once they are in your convenient directory, you can play the videos without being online. You will need a media player like Quicktime or Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. There are others. They will all use the codecs that are installed on your pc.
